Exchange drawings with Design Companion Revit · Import / Export▶

Design Companion 1.29.1 is a separate Windows drawing application. Momentum 1.3.34 improves Revit view exports and requires Design Companion 1.29.1 or later for the handoff. Download Design Companion and Momentum 1.3.34.

  1. In Revit, open the Momentum tab → Import / Export → Design Companion. Use Export to Design Companion, choose disciplines and scope, and include loaded links only when needed. For a building background, open a 3D view, set its section box around the work area, and choose Current view. Visible geometry and links follow the view's clipping and visibility. Selection and whole-model scopes export complete selected geometry.
  2. In the intended Design Companion project and drawing, open Output → Momentum / Import & Export. Review the pending Momentum export, select disciplines and add the background. Save the drawing before dismissing its inbox entry.
  3. Use the same window for DWG and vector PDF backgrounds. Native conversion needs AutoCAD 2025. Select actual units for a unitless DWG; choose the PDF page and drawing-scale multiplier, then verify a known length. Scanned pages are not traced into lines.
  4. To return a detail, choose Export drawing to Momentum, then Import from Design Companion in Revit. Verify the destination model and origin alignment.
If an export exceeds a limit, the message names the count and scope. Reduce the 3D section box, select fewer disciplines or export a selection. No partial reference is sent. For a non-3D view, included links export their complete selected disciplines; use a 3D view when you need clipped links. Close an older running Design Companion copy before opening the updated version.
The handoff uses local files. Backgrounds remain separate from Design Companion's fabrication quantities. Returned detail geometry is a Generic Models DirectShape coordination reference; it does not create native Revit fabrication parts, MEP connectors or a Revit fabrication takeoff.
Connect Momentum to your company Revit · Connect Momentum▶

Use your existing company account to connect this computer. Accept your company invitation before starting.

  1. Save your work and close Revit and Navisworks. Right-click the Companion icon by the Windows clock and choose Quit Companion; hiding its window does not quit it. Download and run the current signed Momentum setup. The same installer includes Companion Beta and adds the connections for supported installed versions; unavailable versions are skipped.
  2. Open Revit and choose Momentum → Connect Momentum. Sign in with your company account on the page that opens.
  3. Check the company and computer, and compare the matching code with Revit. Confirm only the connection you started.
  4. New invitations authorize a verified member's first computer automatically using their assigned license. Additional computers need review in Admin Console → Team → Verified capture devices.
  5. In Momentum 1.3.18 or later, select Sync now after approval. No Revit restart is needed to apply the connection. Check My Tasks for delivery status, then open a model and check Live now. Installing the add-in update still requires closing Revit once.
Using Update on close? Navisworks and Companion must also be closed before setup can continue. If an app remains open, setup shows a notice and postpones the update without closing your apps. Save and close the remaining app, then run setup again. Closing Revit alone does not finish the update.
Before changing an existing connection, review pending delivery and keep recovery files. Existing recorded hours stay with their original identity. Browser approval alone does not confirm installation or delivery.

Start, stop and finish task work Revit · Tasks and My Tasks▶

Tasks assigned to you appear in the Tasks popup and in Momentum → My Tasks. Each card shows the recorded scope, cost code and change-order reference when one has been assigned.

  1. Open the model linked to the task's Momentum project. Start is unavailable if the active model belongs to a different project.
  2. Review the task, scope and cost code, then select Start. The card shows Tracking. Only future active work is assigned to that task; earlier time and idle time are not added.
  3. For change-order work, start the task with the correct scope and change-order reference. Not set means no change order has been assigned. Starting a task does not approve its scope or create a change order; company admins manage those decisions.
  4. To move to another task in the same linked project, select its Start button. To leave a task unfinished, choose Stop task. That clears task attribution without completing the task. General active-time capture continues, and later work is unassigned until you start a task.
  5. When the task is finished, choose Done. Momentum saves the completion first, then stops attribution if that task is selected. If saving fails, the task stays selected and the card remains so you can retry.
  6. Switching models clears the selected task. Start the appropriate task again after opening its linked model.
Snooze 15m / 1h delays the reminder. Dismiss hides the card and leaves the task on your board. Neither action stops a selected task; use Stop task when you want to stop assigning work to it.
Understand the no-input timeout Revit · Tracking settings▶

The default no-input timeout is 10 minutes; your company's existing setting stays unchanged by this update. Short pauses remain active while a supported work application is in front. When the timeout is reached, the time since the last input is marked idle.

Working in an unsupported application pauses recording independently of this timeout. A locked or sleeping computer also pauses recording. A confirmed Teams or Zoom meeting can continue without mouse or keyboard input.

An unsupported-application pause does not prove someone was away. Check the recorded reason and review legitimate work with your company admin. Increasing the timeout does not make an unrecognized application supported.
Try Companion PDF review observations Companion Beta · Local test▶

Momentum setup includes Companion Beta 0.1.11, which expires October 28, 2026. Companion provides Navisworks coordination tools and a separate, optional activity test. Its local observations are not uploaded to production Timesheets.

  1. Open Momentum Companion from the Windows notification area by the clock.
  2. Choose More → Activity (test), then enable Record activity on this computer (test).
  3. Enable Include PDF file names and review events (local test). Open and review a PDF in Bluebeam, Acrobat, Edge or Chrome, then check the displayed filename and review events. Detection depends on the viewer and still needs testing on your computer.
  4. Switch to another PDF and then an ordinary webpage. Check that an old PDF filename is not attributed to the new page. You can turn PDF observations off at any time.
This test records PDF filenames and review observations locally. It does not add Timesheet hours. Edge and Chrome PDF duration remains paused in this release, even when a PDF filename is recognized. Revit continues to publish production time.
Link your model to a project Revit · Project Schedule▶

Uploads and the Sheets panel need to know which Momentum project this model belongs to. One-time per model.

  1. Momentum tab → Project Schedule.
  2. Pick the project this model belongs to and confirm.
  3. That's it. Upload Drawings and Sheets now know where things go.
Send your sheets to the office Revit · Upload Drawings▶
  1. Momentum tab → Upload Drawings.
  2. Confirm the sheet count: every printable sheet exports to PDF and uploads to the project's Shop Drawings.
  3. Re-running replaces sheets with the same name (no duplicates), so it's safe to repeat after changes.
Uploaded sheets open in the workspace viewer where the field can drop markups, and those markups come back to you (next card).
See markups & jump to them in the model Revit · Sheets panel▶

A dockable panel showing the project's drawings and every markup on them. Revit stays fully usable while it's open.

  1. Momentum tab → Sheets. The panel docks on the right (drag it anywhere, like the Project Browser).
  2. Pick a drawing. The marked-up sheet renders in the panel, with pins from the office and the field.
  3. Click a markup in the list, then the crosshair. Revit switches to the right view and frames the spot the pin points at.
  4. Fix the model, then mark the markup resolved (✓) so the office knows.
Location jumps are close-but-not-exact until an element is confirmed, because a sheet pin is a point on paper and depth is estimated. Exact element-locked jumps are coming.
Understand a tracking event Workspace · Tracking Events▶

Company admins can review tracking messages in their own panel. Timesheets stay focused on recorded hours, adjustments and approvals.

  1. Open Workspace → Tracking Events, or select Tracking Events in the Admin console.
  2. Choose the dates you want to review. Dates follow the company's timezone; you can view up to 31 days at once.
  3. Choose a person or search for an event. Read Why this appeared, Cause, the evidence label, and the action. Unknown means the original record did not capture a cause; Momentum does not guess.
  4. A delayed tracking check has its own time interval. A missing confirmation or older identity record belongs to a session; its session time is not the time an incident happened.
  5. If the panel could not load every record, refresh before treating the list as complete. Share the EV reference with support; expand individual explanations for a record with several checks.
Opening this panel does not change hours or deduct pay. Older missing information is not proof that someone did not work.
Tasks, comments & @mentions Workspace · Kanban▶
  1. Open a project → Kanban. Drag cards between columns; + adds a task; the ⋯ menu moves/duplicates/deletes.
  2. Click any card to open it: title, details, assignee, due date, and the comment thread.
  3. Write a reply. Type @ to mention a teammate (pick from the list; they get an email). Ctrl+Enter posts.
  4. Under the comments you'll see delivery receipts: Sent · Opened in Revit · Done, so "did they get it?" answers itself.
A ring around the assignee's avatar on a card = that task hasn't been opened in Revit yet.
Upload a submittal (auto-classified) Workspace · Submittals▶

Momentum reads the PDF and pre-fills what it covers. You confirm; nothing is guessed silently.

  1. Project → Submittals → Upload → pick one or MANY PDFs. Each gets its own classify step.
  2. The Classify window opens pre-filled: discipline, equipment type, and the marks it found (EF-1…, ranges like "EF-1 thru 6" expand automatically).
  3. Fix anything it got wrong; tap dashed chips to add suggested marks; type any it missed.
  4. Size and model # are typed by you. The engine never guesses those.
  5. Upload with classification. The data rides with the file for review checks later.
Scanned PDF with no text? It classifies from the filename and tells you so.
Own naming conventions? Submittals → "parsing rules". Add your prefixes (per-project or whole workspace) and test a filename live.
Mark up a drawing Workspace · any PDF▶
  1. Project → Shop Drawings (or any doc tab) → click a PDF. It opens in the viewer, not a download.
  2. Pan by dragging; zoom with scroll or pinch; multi-page PDFs have ‹ page › arrows in the header. Works on phones and tablets.
  3. Pick a tool: pin (tap, then type a note), line / box / circle (drag to draw, then add an optional note), or a stamp (APPROVED, REVISE & RESUBMIT…), which you tap to place.
  4. The sidebar lists every markup: click to highlight, ✓ resolve, 🗑 delete (author or admin only).
  5. Modelers see the same pins in Revit's Sheets panel and can jump the model to them.
The page URL is shareable. Text it to someone and they land on that exact sheet.
View the 3D model Workspace · Model tab▶
  1. Project → Model.
  2. If the model was exported to Beacon, it renders in 3D: orbit (drag), zoom (scroll/pinch), full screen.
  3. Nothing there? The model hasn't been exported to Beacon yet. That's done from Revit.
Invite a client to one project Workspace · Invites tab▶

Clients see only that project, never your other jobs, your team's hours, or anyone's stats.

  1. Project → Invites (far right tab) → Invite client.
  2. Enter their email (+ optional note) → Send invite. They get a branded email; the join link works once they verify their address.
  3. They land in a project portal with an overview, Shop Drawing Schedule, submittal upload, drawings with markup, and "Request a task".
  4. Their task requests appear in this same tab: Approve (pick the real assignee, set the due date → becomes a routed task) or Decline with a reason they'll see.
General task requests require your approval. Shop Drawing Schedule entries create unassigned To do tasks automatically; your team assigns the modeler and reviews scope.
Your portal at a glance Client▶
  1. Open the invite email → Accept → create your sign-in (verify your email if asked).
  2. You'll see your project with Overview · Shop Drawing Schedule · Submittals · Drawings · Request a task.
  3. If you have access to more than one project, select the correct project before entering dates or uploading files.
Enter shop drawing dates Client · Shop Drawing Schedule▶
  1. Confirm the project, then open Shop Drawing Schedule.
  2. Enter the trade or system, level, and optional area. Set Shop drawings needed by. An optional on-site date is a separate milestone.
  3. Save the entry. Momentum adds the deadline to the project schedule and creates an unassigned To do task due that day. The project team assigns the work.
  4. Use Save and add another for additional levels. Edit your saved entry to update the same linked records without creating another task.

A requested date does not approve additional scope or costs. Completed tasks keep their historical deadline. See the detailed schedule guide for editing and connection recovery.

Send a submittal Client · Submittals▶
  1. Submittals tab → tap the upload box → pick the PDF (up to 30 MB).
  2. Done. It's filed for the team automatically.
Mark up a drawing Client · Drawings▶
  1. Drawings tab → open a sheet → pinch/drag to look around.
  2. Pin tool → tap the problem spot → say what's wrong → Pin it.
  3. The modeling team sees your pin inside Revit, on the exact sheet.
Request work Client · Request a task▶
  1. Request a task tab → what you need, details, the date you'd like it by, and who you'd suggest.
  2. Send request. The team reviews it; you'll see it as pending → approved (or declined, with the reason).
Nothing matches. Try another word.
